MPIC is a method in which an ion-pairing agent in the eluent improves retention for charged analytes in a hydrophobic column and is then removed from the suppressor to enable selective, sensitive detection of the analytes. For the analysis of cations, heptafluorobutyric acid is one such agent suitable for suppression.
